2009 Race Game - Segment 4

Rules for NASCAR CUP SERIES FANTASY RACE GAME
This is the 10th year of the Fantasy race game. Last year over $4,000 in prize money was paid out.
Following are the rules for playing in the game.

1). All players drivers picks must be in before the START of the race. Picks arriving late will be considered "not received". Pick sites are time stamped and automatically forwarded to me at time of player pick. It is very inportant to check your choices before you hit SUBMIT and make sure the drivers you picked are the ones you wanted and also you have no duplicates. Also please make sure your name is at the top.

2). You may email picks to me directly, use web site to pick, or phone them to me (phone number supplied at a later date). They must get to me to be official. Web site, and Email (I would think) would be the best (easiest) way, but I can't be responsible if I don't get them for some reason. If you do notify me by email (or receive it from the web site)... I'll respond as soon as the picks come in and let you know I have it. Web site addresses will be provided to all who enter and pay the entry fee.

3). Anyone who doesn't update their picks from week to week will get the same drivers they had the previous week. I realize that things come up from time to time, and it is impossible to get picks in every week. (emergencies, vacations, or just forget)
IN an event to keep the game competative,... this provision is made: if you have a driver carry over from the previous week that is NOT in the current weeks field, a player will be given the slowest qualifier in the group that a player does not currently have in their field of drivers.
For example -- If you had previously picked Regan Smith and you let your drivers carry over, and Smith doesn't make THIS race; you will be given the slowest qualifying "D" driver (Smith is a "D" driver) in the race. This keeps you from just getting a big "Zero" points for that driver and eliminating your chances at winning. The driver Smith was replaced with would be the driver that carried over to the next week if you failed to pick again the following week.

5). Players need to pay in advance. As the game grows larger it just is getting mandatory that we pay in advance for the segment we are playing. Players must pay before playing or being given the web site address of the pick site. This fair for everyone, and this is really for everyone's protection.
NOTE** -- Drop outs If for some reason you want to drop out of the game you may do so and get a refund on unplayed 'segments'... (note that says segments).... but there are NO refunds after a particular segment has started. Some people that have played for many years just pay for a whole year in advance (and frankly it is the easiest for everyone concerned). But it's not a requirement
Once a Segment starts and a player decides they want to drop out they can not get any type of refund for THAT segment that is already underway... you can ony drop out at the end of a segment, and then get a refund for any unpaid segment you have paid for in advance.. so you may as well play out that segment and get all the winnings you can.
YOU CAN get a refund for any segments left remaining unplayed. ie If you pay for the entire year in advance, and you want to quit during the second segment you can get refunded for the remaining segments not started yet. NO refunds are given for 'overall' entry if you choose to compete in that part of the game.

6). Contest will be divided into four segments, plus a division for "overall" points. You'll have to notify me and pay in advance of the first segment if you want to be in the "overall" points. You can only enter overall before the start of the very first race of the year

7). The segments will be divided as follows:
Segment #1 - First 8 races of NASCAR season
Segment #2 - Next 9 races of NASCAR season
Segment #3 - Next 9 races of NASCAR season and
Segment #4 - Last 10 races of NASCAR season -- (the Chase)

8). Entry fee will be as follows.
Entry is $4 per week, plus $15 for the segment
Segment #1 - $67 for 8 races (8 x 4) plus $15 for segment, plus $20 pre-payment for "overall" (if you desire to participate) If a player chooses NOT to participae in the over-all competition; the entry will be $47.
Players may opt-out of playing in the overall, but everyone must play in the segment
Segment #2 - $51 9 races (9 x 4) plus $15 for segment
Segment #3 - $51 9 races (9 x 4) plus $15 for segment
Segment #4 - $55 10 races (10 x 4) plus $15 for segment

Starting dates for each segment are:
First Race, First Segment Daytona 500 (Feb 17th)
First race, Second Segment Talladega event (Apr 27th)
First race, Third Segment Daytona (July 5th)
First race, Fourth Segment New Hampshire (Sept. 14th)

9). Payoffs:--- Winners of each race will get race contest purse.
Projected pay-outs shake out this way: For example -- If we have 21 people playing this would be the payout. IF we end up with more players, this will be adjusted upward to reflect the additional players. The more players the better... that way we can pay out more spots each week. I pay out at least on a 1:3 ratio. This isa game set up so no one "gets rich", but so most of the winnings are more spread around. Larger pay-out come in the segment and over-all competitions. You'll get an idea of the pay-outs listed below.

21 people
...Race Win..........Segment Win.......Over-all Win

...$21....................$80.......................$102
...$17....................$66........................$84
...$14....................$53........................$71
...$11....................$42........................$55
....$9....................$32........................$46
....$7....................$24........................$36
....$5....................$18........................$26

10a). In the event of a RAIN OUT and rescheduled race... the FIRST 8 (or 9) races ran are the official points scoring races for the segment.
10b). IF you have picked drivers and an event RAINS OUT or is postponed, you must repick your drivers AGAIN, if any race is ran between the originally scheduled race date, and the date the race is ACTUALLY ran. ie. if a race is postponed this Sunday, and is ran NEXT Sunday (with no other event ran in between) you do NOT have to repick your drivers... you MAY change your drivers up until the start of the race if you want to. However, IF an event is postponed this week, and is rescheduled for a week (or month) from the original race date and one (or several) events are run before the rescheduled race, you MUST repick you drivers. The is mostly because there's a good chance the driver grouping may change in that time, and you would have drivers picked that were now in different groups.

11).Driver groupings will be changed after each segment according (closely??) to official NASCAR driver point standings.

12). Points will be earned closely similar to the way that NASCAR awards points. Complete list follows:

5 additional points for leading the most laps
10 points for driver leading at 1/2 way
10 points for highest finishing "rookie"

14). Driver Picking
Pick 4 drivers from the "A" list
Pick 4 drivers from the "B" list
Pick 3 drivers from the "C" list
Pick 3 drivers from the "D" list
There will be 14 total picks. This forces players to have to picks drivers of varying talent levels, and team qualities.

15). ANY driver not included on any of the list will be added to the "D" drivers list... and you can write them in the the "write in" area. For example, Ron Fellows, Boris Said, etc, may come in and run a road course race. They would not be listed in any of the groups, and must be used as a "D" driver pick.

16). After each race I'll send out a results email or post results on a web site that shows how everyone did for the race, and where everyone stands in the segment and the over-all standings.

17). Entry Fee: You can pay ALL of the entry fee ($225 for the entire year). Or you can pay by segment ($68 for first segment) IF you choose NOT to participate in the overall, first segment would be $48

18). All entry fees will be paid out. There is a 100% pay-out in the game. No "administration fees" or anything like that. I do ask for a one time $1 fee to help defer cost of sending out the winnings checks, and all mailing. NOW, since I don't require everyone pay for the ENTIRE year all up front (and people pay per segment) there's always the possibility someone may play the first segment or two, and then drop out and not play the last segment.... if this happens the prize pay-outs will have to be adjusted to reflect this. I can't pay out money I don't take in. This is all a friendly game, and don't want any money problems...

19). If there are any questions... please ask now.
